OPP and local EMS to host free public information session

Bruce County residents can come attend an information session on careers in the OPP and Emergency Medical Services this month.

OPP Constable Krista Linthorne says on February 15 in Kincardine, the Grey Bruce and South Bruce OPP will be on hand alongside Bruce County EMS to educate anyone interested on how to get into those two careers.

"The OPP will be presenting on different detachment areas in the Grey Bruce and South Bruce region. Along with out auxiliary program, which is a volunteer program, and our cadet program, which is a paid program. In addition to that we will be speaking about how to apply to the OPP if you're interested. Anyone can apply as long as you're a minimum of 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen, have a high school diploma or its equivalent, a Class G license and no criminal record," Constable Linthorne explained.

"We're also going to have paramedics there," Linthorne continued. "They'll be advising on how to apply to the paramedic program, what the college courses look like and where you can go for those."

Constable Linthorne adds that the relationship between police and EMS crews is crucial for public safety.

"We both rely on each other on calls for service. So this will be great because if you believe you want to be a police officer but then you listen to someone who's a paramedic and talking about their field of work, then maybe you wanna go that route instead. Or, maybe just look into both and decide after that," Linthorne added.

There is no registration required for the information session and anyone is welcome. It will take place February 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Kincardine District Secondary School.
