The Hanover and District Hospital is celebrating a major milestone this month.
It will be celebrating 100 years in operation, and HDH President and CEO Dana Howes says the hospital originally came to be through a generous local donation.
"We opened our doors as a hospital corporation on August 23, 1923, as a result of a generous donation from the Knechtel brothers, they were a family in town here. From their generous donation, we have continued to grow and really expand and serve our community," Howes shared.
On a professional level, Howes, says she has been extremely proud to work for the hospital and the Hanover community.
"Our hospital is very much a mainstay, a pillar in the community, that really tries to serve our community and region by providing the best care possible. We really strive to look at the needs of our community and bring care as close to home as possible. We really have an excellent organization, and I think that shows," Howes enthused.
Howes says everyone is welcome to attend the 100 year celebration of Hanover and District Hospital at 1 p.m. in the front foyer of the building on August 23.
She adds that they will be celebrating where they've been and where they hope to go as a hospital. She says part of that is of course always trying to upgrade and improve the facility, which saw some recent improvements and includes upcoming ones, as well.
"We've just finished an LED project with our lighting, we installed all these new hand rails. Into the future we are looking to improve our emergency department. It is one of the mainstays in our community and region. So we wanna make sure we have a department that's gonna work well for us now and in the future. So we are hoping to do a renovation that will better meet the needs of our staff, as well as our patients and the surrounding region," added Howes.
