Huron County OPP have laid charges after investigating a recent crash that heavily damaged a local business.
On October 13, police were called just after 8 p.m. to the scene of a crash in Seaforth. Officers arrived to find that a farm tractor had smashed into the storefront of a business on Main Street.
The crash caused "extensive damage" to the building, according to investigators. The structural integrity of the building was compromised, including a business in the lower half, and a residence in the upper portion. The residents were home at the time of the collision, but thankfully were uninjured.
As a result, a 23-year-old from Huron East has been charged with failing to stop at a red light, careless driving, and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
The accused will be required to attend the Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich to answer to the charges.
The damage to the building has left a section of Main Street closed to vehicle traffic.
The Municipality of Huron East says it remains "focused on having the road reopened as quickly as possible, but notes the building remains under a "Make Safe" Order.
As part of the regular updates from the building owner’s insurance company, the municipality said it was confirmed that asbestos is present within the building and that it must be removed before the damaged brick facade can be dealt with.
At this time, the road is expected to re-open the first week of December.
