Central Huron calling for government funding to improve accessibility

The Municipality of Central Huron will hold an accessibility event, with the hopes of showing government officials why funding is important for downtown Clinton.

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and a representative for Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb will be in attendance at the event, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 9.

"I'm hoping that the government representatives understand the needs and challenges that face all of us, not just those that are in need of accessibility measures," said Angela Smith, Community Improvement Coordinator for Central Huron.

Smith said she hopes to finish installing automatic door openers to storefronts.

"This is important to all of us," Smith noted. "All of us may need these aids at some point in our lives. Young families with strollers, middle-aged people that are struggling, waiting for a knee or hip replacement, to those people actually using wheelchairs."

Smith said if general members of the public are interested in giving suggestions or helping out with the accessibility initiative, she's always open to conversations.

"Reach out to me at the town hall," Smith added. "I'm always happy to chat and always happy to hear ways things are being done in other municipalities. It's something that we all need to strive for together."
