The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) will hold a Public Information meeting to provide residents with more information on the upcoming floodplain mapping study.
It will take place on November 7 at The Plex in Port Elgin in collaboration with Water's Edge Environmental Solutions.
"Floodplain mapping is a tool we use to identify the extent of a hazard associated with flooding," said Elise MacLeod, manager of water resources at SVCA. "It shows that during certain rainfall conditions or snow melts this is how far the flood or water would end up going."
MacLeod said it allows them to designate areas where houses should not be built, among other things. The conservation authority is looking for the community to get involved and learn about the process.
"The best thing to do is come out to this event, even if you're not directly in the area that we're looking at," she said. "If you're a resident or landowner that has property in an area that's ever seen flooding before, that information in those stories will help inform the models and make sure they're more accurate."
No story or picture is too big or small, according to MacLeod. All information is helpful.
This meeting is an introduction and more information will be shared as necessary.
The meeting will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
