Owen Sound will host the year's final Household Hazardous Waste Day this weekend.
Eligible residents can drop off hazardous waste Saturday, October 28 at the Public Works Facility (1900 20th Street East) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It's a way to ensure hazardous materials are recycled or otherwise disposed of in a safe and environmentally friendly manner to keep them out of landfills and waterways.
Household Hazardous Waste Day is open to residents from the City of Owen Sound, the Township of Chatsworth, the Township of Georgian Bluffs, the Municipality of Grey Highlands, and the Municipality of Meaford.
Participants should complete a Household Hazardous Waste Form ahead of time by going to OwenSound.ca. Valid ID with a home address will be required.
Hazardous waste includes motor oil, automobile batteries, paints and solvents, household cleaners, drain openers, pesticides and compressed gas tanks like propane or oxygen.
Certain items like Infectious wastes or syringes, radioactive wastes, explosives or Improperly contained waste are not acceptable. And the event does not take hazardous waste from commercial, industrial, or farm operations.
The City of Owen Sound also offers a leaf and yard waste compost site to City residents, as well as Georgian Bluffs and Meaford residents. Other waste management efforts and information are available at OwenSound.ca/Waste.
