The new all wheels park in Milverton was officially unveiled on September 9.
Becky Westman, Recreation and Community Services Manager for Perth East, says the new park is equipped with some great features for skateboarders, BMXers and rollerbladers alike.
"The Skate park features a quarter pipe on one side, and a bank ramp with a raised quarter pipe on the other side. In the middle there's a stage section with two hollow legs and two rails perfect for street skating. It's complimented with sets of stairs on one side and a hipped bank ramp on the other side. There's also a flat ground area with a couple rails and space for flip tricks there," Westman shared.
Westman says the unveiling event was very well attended.
"Easily a hundred youth at the opening, the Mayor of Perth East, Rhonda Ehgoetz was in attendance. Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae was here, and also the Optimist Club members who were part of the subcommittee to create the all wheels park were in attendance, as well," added Westman.
The total cost of the project was roughly $270,000, with the municipality only having to pay a reasonable portion.
"So the municipality donated $20,000 from their recreation reserve fund and in addition to that, there had been $50,000 set aside from development charges, so a total of $70,000," Westman explained.
The park is located at the Perth East Rec Centre in Milverton.
“This is great news for young people and those young at heart in the community of Perth East," said MPP Rae. “This park will provide an affordable and accessible outlet for sports in Milverton. Thank you to the Optimist Club of Mornington who spearheaded this project.”
“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be more appreciated by the community,” added Mayor Ehgoetz. “The grant has allowed us to create a recreational space that appeals to many different types of users who are looking for low cost, unstructured activity. Thank you to the Optimist Club of Mornington who took the initiative to get this project going and worked hard over the past year to see it come to reality.”
