South Bruce Peninsula town council has called a special meeting for Wednesday afternoon where members will decide whether to ask for Mayor Garry Michi to resign.
The call for Michi's resignation comes after audio was leaked on Friday of the Mayor making disparaging remarks towards the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation.
The Nawash council issued a statement on Saturday calling for Michi's job.
The notice of motion to request for Michi's resignation was filed by Coun. Caleb Hull, who wrote that it would "be in the best interest of our community as we work towards improving relations with all First Nations communities and more specifically with Chippewas of Nawash and Saugeen First Nation."
Hull also filed a notice of motion for council to register a complaint with the town’s Integrity Commissioner.
Mayor Michi has yet to respond to a request for a comment.
