Goderich mayor passes away

Goderich Mayor Myles Murdock has passed away.

Deputy Mayor Trevor Bazinet said the Mayor was diagnosed with cancer in January of this year.

“A huge loss for the town," said Bazinet. "Myles was involved in so much. And it's also a huge loss for me. He's been a mentor to me since I was his high school student and when I got elected to council back in 2014, he was that one councillor that always took the time to answer my questions.”

He added when he was elected Deputy Mayor, Murdock kept him involved in everything regarding being the Mayor.

Bazinet said Murdock very seldom even acknowledged what he was dealing with.

“He still was there, he still showed his strength as a person and as the Town of Goderich Mayor," said Bazinet. "There were people that had no idea. If you were to walk up to him on the street you wouldn't have known. He didn't miss anything. Even with what he was going through health wise, he was there.”

Bazinet expressed his condolences to Murdock's family and loved ones. More information will be available in the next couple of days.
