Central Huron Mayor, Jim Ginn, says Highway 21, between Telephone Road and Tower Line Road, north of Bayfield, is closed for the rest of the summer for the replacement of the Gully Creek culvert.
“Transport trucks will have to cross at Bayfield Road and then swing up Parr Line to Holmesville and then wherever they need to go. Car traffic can go up Orchard Line, but it's a municipal road and doesn't have the width of provincial roads or county roads,” said Ginn.
Ginn says issues have been raised. “I'm just a little concerned because it's a bike route, having bikes on there when there's a massive increase in traffic that'll be using it. They're not built to have that much traffic on them, it's a great cycle route, but perhaps this year, it would be best if cyclists took a different route.”
Ginn also points out there are some hills on Orchard Line that will interfere with the sight lines for motorists and cyclists. “The sight gets impaired and we don't want someone passing another car and then all of a sudden, there's a bike right there and it's just a safety issue.”
Ginn suggests, just to be safe, it might be a good idea for cyclists to come one more road in from the lake this year to Porter's Hill Line. He suggests that it be better for everyone if the cyclists were on Porter's Hill Line instead of Orchard Line this summer.
