Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson has announced funding that will help improve safety and upgrade a local long-term care home in Bluewater.
In a release on April 15th, Thompson says that a one-time funding amount of $318,249 of federal and provincial funding will go to the Blue Water Rest Home. The release states this funding is part of a $100 million investment by the province to "install heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, and make retrofits or repairs to fire sprinkler systems, in 95 long-term care homes across the province."
The upgrades will help mitigate the spread and exposure to bacteria, improve air quality, improve safety by installing a fire sprinkler in a zone that doesn't have one and improve security by installing cameras.
The release also states that the funding is part of an up to $1.05 billion combined federal and provincial investment to "build or renovate health and safety related projects in long-term care, education and municipalities through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program."
“Our government puts the safety and well-being of long-term care residents at the heart of everything we do," Thompson says. "When it is safe to do so, I look forward to making a visit to the Blue Water Rest Home to recognize this important investment with both staff and residents.”
“Our Government is reversing decades of neglect and under funding by repairing and rebuilding long-term care in Ontario like never before,” adds Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care. “Today’s investment in homes across the province is another part of our government’s plan to ensure our loved ones live in comfort and with the safety, dignity and respect they deserve.”
