Accidental 911 call leads to COVID-19 fines

Police in Saugeen Shores have laid charges after four people failed to abide by stay-at-home orders.

Around midnight on February 14, police were called to a residence in Port Elgin. They spoke with the home owner and a man outside the home, where they found out the call had been made by accident. To make sure no one needed assistance, police asked to speak to the other occupants of the home.

Police said they then discovered that three people at the residence did not live there and were in breach of the current stay-at-home order. All of the visitors in the home were from out of town.

After speaking with everyone at the home, police determined there was no emergency. However, four people were charged with failing to comply with the current public health measures.

A 41 year-old woman from Saugeen Shores, a 53 year-old woman from Guelph, a 52 year-old woman from Guelph and a 55 year-old man from Guelph were all issued tickets.

The stay-at-home order remains in effect in Saugeen Shores until February 16.
