COVID-19 cases reported in three children who attend school in Grey County

The Grey-Bruce Public Health Unit has confirmed multiple cases of COVID-19 were found in students attending a public school in Grey County.

Dr. Ian Arra, the Medical Officer of Health and Chief Executive Officer with Grey Bruce Public Health, said the health unit is working with the Bluewater District School Board to address cases found in students attending Osprey Central School in Maxwell.

The confirmed cases are in three children from one household. Public health has evidence the transmission did not take place in the school. The health unit has not declared an outbreak at this time because there is no evidence of person to person transmission from within the school, school buses or any childcare centres in Grey Bruce.

The health unit will contact people who have been in close contact with the confirmed cases both inside and outside of the school environment to determine their risk level. All contact tracing and determination of individual and community risk will be made by the health unit.

Those who are not contacted are considered not to be at risk, and additional steps including asymptomatic testing are not required.

Grey Bruce Public Health will have a mobile assessment centre in the Osprey Community Arena this week to test those who are considered at risk.

In an email to CKNX from the Bluewater District School Board, the school remains open.
