Brockton Council has a vacancy.
Councillor Chris Oberle has tendered his resignation after accepting a job as a prosecutor in another area.
Mayor Chris Peabody said they have not settled on a plan to fill Oberle's seat, but they will decide that at council Tuesday night.
"There's two options; have a byelection, or host an ad in the paper and take applications, and then have interviews, and then council would fill the vacancy with a selection," he said.
Mayor Peabody said despite losing Oberle, this is a good news story as Oberle continues his law career. He said Oberle was a pleasure to work with.
"He was very thorough and dedicated," said Peabody. "He was always very well prepared for meetings and had lots of questions, so he contributed a lot at the council table to all debates."
Oberle was serving his second term on Brockton Council after first being elected in 2014.
