Nominations open for Inspiring Women in Huron

Nominations are now open for the annual Inspiring Women in Huron event.

The annual event is hosted by the Huron Women's Shelter Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services, and Executive Director Laura Sparks says the goal is to celebrate great local women who impact their community.

"It's an opportunity for us to acknowledge women who have improved the lives of others in their community in areas like arts and culture, volunteerism, philanthropy, leadership, diversity, that sort of thing."

The day is held in association with International Women's Day, and will be held this spring on March 6th at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Goderich. Sparks says they're looking for any nominee from citizens who know a local woman that fits that bill of inspiration.

"We're really looking for anybody who has been a mentor, a leader, a role model and has really helped advance equality in our communities."

On top of the great annual event, Sparks notes their services have expanded to better serve people in need.

"We provide emergency shelter. Our facility can accommodate up to 19 residents at a time. We also have three second stage housing facilities that women can stay in, as well."
