Two Huron County municipalities consider sharing plumbing and septic inspector

Central Huron and Huron East are looking at the possibility of sharing a plumbing and septic inspector.

Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn said Huron County has provided the service in the past through its health unit, but Perth never did.

“Not all municipalities participated, so during the amalgamation talks with the health units, it was decided that the health units would not offer those services in the amalgamated health unit," he said. “So then it was left for the counties to decide whether they would offer those services and they chose not to, so we are negotiating with Huron East and we approved a joint inspector on the condition that Huron East also approves it.”

Ginn added, in the past, some municipalities had their building inspector do the plumbing and septic inspections, but both Huron East and Central Huron did not feel that was an option for them for workload purposes, so they're hoping to hire one inspector for the two municipalities and offer the services on a cost-sharing basis.
