Baby girl almost abducted in Hanover

A 30-year-old woman has been charged after the attempted abduction of a six-month-old baby girl at a medical clinic in Hanover.

The Hanover Police Service said on Tuesday at around 2:15 p.m., the child was taken from her mother while she was in a car seat in the clinic's waiting area. The mother and other quickly took action and stopped the abduction. The infant was not injured.

Police arrived quickly and took a woman into custody following a brief struggle.

"The outcome here could have been much worse but for the swift action of everyone involved," police said in a news release.

As a result of the incident, 30-year-old Rebecca Olson of no fixed address is charged with attempting to abduct a child under 14 years of age. She remained in custody following a bail hearing on Wednesday.

Officers are still looking for witnesses to this incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-364-2411.
