Driver charged after failing to stop for school bus

Perth County OPP charged a North Perth resident for not obeying a school bus stop signal last week.

Officers with the North Perth detachment received a traffic complaint after a vehicle failed to stop for a school bus in Listowel. Through an investigation the vehicle was identified, and police tracked down the driver, a 32-year-old North Perth resident, and charged them with failing to stop for a school bus. The driver was issued a Provincial Offence Notice (PON).

The OPP are reminding drivers once again to always be aware of school buses and always stop when the red lights flash and the school bus stops. Failure to stop for a school bus can result in a fine of up to $2,000 for a first offence, six demerit points and possible jail time for up to six months.
