Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece welcomes word that the Ministry for Health and Long Term Care approved the Ritz Lutheran Villa redevelopment project.
Pettapiece said it is great news for the community of Mitchell, the Municipality of West-Perth and the riding as a whole.
The redevelopment will see a new 128 long-term care bed facility constructed. The entire project is valued at approximately $24 million
“This is extremely good news for the Municipality of West Perth and surrounding communities,” said Board Chairman David Murray. “The Board of Directors of Ritz Lutheran Villa Corp has been preparing for and looking forward to this day for a number of years. We can now act on the plans that we have put in place.”
Ritz Lutheran Villa, which also owns Mitchell Nursing Home, will combine both facilities and build a completely new structure.
“This project has been planned for many years with the thought of reducing the economic burden of healthcare delivery in Perth County and helping to alleviate hallway medicine,” said Ritz Lutheran Villa Administrator Jeff Renaud. “We are very grateful for the support and the confidence that our local government representatives and the Government of Ontario are investing in our community moving forward.”
“This redevelopment will help end hallway health care in a real way for Perth County,” said Pettapiece. “The proposed redevelopment of some beds into alternate level of care beds will free-up space in local hospitals for critically ill patients. This is an important step to help alleviate the backlog in our rural health care system.”
“Hallway health care is a multi-faceted problem that will require real and innovative solutions," said Christine Elliott, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. “Our government will continue to listen to the people who work on the front lines of our health care system as we develop a long-term, transformational strategy to address hallway health care.”
“I want to thank Jeff and David for their continued advocacy and look forward to continuing to work with them to get this project done,” said Pettapiece.
