Midwestern Ontario under a freezing rain warning

Midwestern Ontario is likely in for a slippery, windy night.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the following regions for later Saturday night into Sunday:

  • Bruce Peninsula - Sauble Beach - Tobermory
  • Saugeen Shores - Kincardine - Southern Bruce County
  • Hanover - Dundalk - Southern Grey County
  • Owen Sound - Blue Mountains - Northern Grey County
  • Goderich - Bluewater - Southern Huron County
  • Wingham - Blyth - Northern Huron County
  • Listowel - Milverton - Northern Perth County
  • Stratford - Mitchell - Southern Perth County
The weather agency said freezing rain will begin late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, eventually changing to rain as temperatures rise above the freezing mark. The closer to the Lake Ontario shoreline, the less likely the risk of freezing rain.

Once the rain begins, some areas can see 15 millimetres to 25 millimetres by Sunday morning. Pooling of water on streets or around poorly-maintained drains may occur.

Winds are also expected to pick up, with southwest winds reaching gusts of up to 80 kilometres-per-hour possible.

Roads, highways, sidewalks, bridges and parking lots may become wet and slippery. Travel with caution if you need to go out.
