SIU invokes mandate in Grey County death

The case of a Grey County man found dead following a family dispute has been turned over to Ontario's law-enforcement oversight agency.

Ontario Provincial Police officers were called to a home on Artemesia-Glenelg Townline in Grey Highlands around 7:30 p.m. Friday on a report of a family dispute. OPP Constable Adam Belanger said two men were involved in the incident, but one left before police arrived at the location.

Belanger said officers were called back to the home around 2:15 a.m. Saturday on a report of a sudden death there. A 52-year-old man, who had spoken to officers earlier, was found dead on the property. Police say he died of a gunshot wound.

Grey County EMS assisted police on scene. The deceased man has not been publicly identified.

The OPP has contacted the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate and taken over the investigation. The OPP will not provide additional information on this matter.
