Second person facing murder charge in death of Southampton man

Police have now laid a second murder charge in connection with the death of a Southampton man who had been reported missing almost three months before he was found dead.

David Beattie, 22, of Chatsworth Township, who was previously charged with indignity to a body and failing to comply with probation back in March, now faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Nolan Panchyshyn. He was arrested again on Monday.

Panchyshyn was reported missing on December 20, 2017, and his body was later found on a property near the village of Dornoch in Grey County on March 17.

Beattie is scheduled to appear by video at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 6.  The case is subject to a court-ordered publication ban.

Dwayne Hammond, 46, of Chatsworth Township, was also charged with second-degree murder, indignity to a body, and possession of a weapon while prohibited in March, following the discovery of Panchyshyn's body.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call South Bruce OPP 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
