Minto

George Bridge was re-elected as mayor of the Town of Minto Monday night.

Bridge said he is appreciative that the residents have given him another opportunity after a long campaign.

"Well it was a long campaign, and I'm feeling relieved," he said. "It was a hard fought one, I had lots of help, and I just think the people of the Town of Minto want to keep going forward with some of the stuff the last 2 councils have done, they've given me a third shot at it, and I appreciate that."

Going forward, Bridge said one thing council wants to do is secure more funding from the upper levels of government.

"We have to continue to go after the two levels of government to get the proper financing for our infrastructure. We've got nine per cent of the revenue and 60 per cent of the infrastructure. So, if we don't get that fixed, and I spent the last four years working hard at that, and we're seeing some success, but that's another big push we have to continue to do."

Bridge said more immigration to help the workforce and more affordable housing options are other key issues that council want to key in on.

David Turton was acclaimed as deputy mayor.

The five councillors elected were Jean Anderson, Judy Dirkson, Ron Elliott, Geoff Gunson and Mark Mackenzie.

Wellington North

Wellington North incumbent Mayor Andy Lennox secured another term as mayor Monday night.

Lennox, who gave credit to his campaign team and family after the win, said he sees a particularly big challenge going into this term.

"I think some of the big challenges we have facing our community is we're already seeing fairly significant growth, so making sure that growth benefits all members of our community is going to be a big challenge ahead."

Lennox also touched on a key infrastructure project that council will be addressing next year.

"Well, I think the one we've been working on for a while is the wastewater treatment plant upgrade in Arthur. We're expecting to begin construction on that next year, so that's certainly a big project for us."

Lennox said tackling issues like affordable housing will also be a key for council going forward.

All of the councillors had been acclaimed; Dan Yake, Sherry Burke, Lisa Hern, Steven Terrance McCabe.
