Local Centres for Employment and Learning play key role

The Avon Maitland District School Board, through its Centres for Employment and Learning scattered around Huron County, is doing what it can to help young people get into the workforce.

The Reach for Success program is for individuals between the ages of 15 and 30 and is funded by the federal government.

The goal of the program is to give young adults the training they need to take the next step.

Project Coordinator Kelly Harrison said "we start with four weeks of paid employment readiness workshops. In those workshops, we cover your kind of standard things that you need to get underway, get a good resume, how to write a good cover letter, some interview skills, how to do a proper job search."

Harrison said they also work on what are called "soft skills". One of the big ones is communications, but also include time management, personal management and how to get along with others.

The Centre for Employment and Learning website has more information.
