Bruce County gearing up for another hazardous waste collection

In just over a week Bruce County will hold its second-to-last scheduled hazardous household waste collection in Walkerton.

The event which encourages residents to drop off their unwanted waste materials will be held at the Bruce County Transportation Yard at 94 Bruce Road 2 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 20.

"This is your opportunity to clear out hazardous material from your home, garage or basement and make sure it’s handled responsibly," the county said in a statement.

Household hazardous waste that will be accepted includes paints and stains, propane tanks, used oil, aerosols, batteries, antifreeze, oil filters, solvents, household cleaners, fluorescent lights, fertilizers, fuel, pharmaceuticals, fire extinguishers, pesticides, and pool chemicals. The full list of acceptable items can be found by clicking here.

What won't be accepted is commercial waste, agricultural waste, industrial waste, PCB’s, ammunitions, and flares.

Those planning on dropping off items are asked place the waste materials in their trunk or truck bed for unloading by staff and to stay in their vehicles while at the event. The county is also reminding that waste should be placed in unwanted containers as they will not be emptied and returned.
