Harriston Woman Charged In Raffle Fraud

A woman from Harriston is facing charges, stemming from raffle ticket sales.

Between April and December of last year, a woman was selling raffle tickets and bracelets, claiming that the proceeds would be donated to the breakfast program at Victoria Cross Public School in Mount Forest.

After following up on a complaint, Wellington County OPP determined that no money was ever donated and there is no evidence that the prizes that were advertised were ever awarded. As well, the woman did not obtain a lottery license from the Township of Wellington North or through the AGCO.

Tickets were sold at the Mount Forest Home Show last spring, Mount Forest Fireworks Festival in the summer, and at the Mount Forest Craft Show in the fall.    Tickets were also offered online through Facebook Buy and Sell Groups, including the "Mount Forest & Surrounding Areas Buy/Sell/Swap" page.

Patricia Oldham, 31, of Harriston has been charged with fraud under $5,000 and conducting a lottery that is not authorized contrary to the Criminal Code.

Anyone who may have been a victim is asked to contact OPP Constable Julie Charbonneau by email at Julie.Charbonneau@opp.ca or by calling 1-888-310-1122 should email not be an option.
