Four competitors in the Ontario Music Festival's Stratford Festival will move on to the nationals.
The performers from the Stratford Kiwanis Festival of the Performing Arts competed at the provincial finals in Peterborough, and finished first.
They'll now head to the national competition in Calgary in August.
Trumpeter Graham Lumsden from London placed first in Grade Eight Brass; Chloe Weir from Embro took first place in Music Theatre, Open Level; Nic Saville from Cambridge placed first in the Speech and Drama, Senior Level; and, Maya Wilson from Stratford took top honours in Elementary Level Music Theatre.
"These winners deserve recognition for the dedication and talent needed to succeed in competition with all those who qualified for the provincial finals from across Ontario," said Janis
Auster, Executive Director of the Stratford Kiwanis Festival of the Performing Arts.
"The level of talent displayed at our 90th annual festival this year meant that we were able to send a very strong team to the provincials, and that is reflected in the results achieved," She adds.
Performers from the Stratford Kiwanis Festival of the Performing Arts qualified for the Provincials at Peterborough in grades six, nine, 10, diploma and intermediate level piano (concerto) competitions; grade eight strings; grades seven, eight, nine and 10 voice classes; junior, intermediate and senior speech and drama competitions, together with all five levels of Music Theatre.
The Avon Public School Choir and the Stratford Concert Band took second place honours.
Seaforth's Josie Murray placed third in Junior Level Music Theatre.
Effie Honeywell, Myles Avigdor, Elysse Delaney, Gavin Yeomans, Amelia Phillips, Liam Westman, Krista Fowler and Mariana Bachman all were provincial finalists from Stratford.
Other provincial finalists from the Stratford festival were Larisa Shea, Seaforth; Nicole Schulz, Kitchener; Charis Ho, Andrew Ye, and Allan Zhang, Waterloo; Mary Divita, New Hamburg; Bejamin Hearn, Clinton; and, Nyah Lavoie, Ottawa.
Honourable mentions went to Sean Dolan, Rachael Frankruyter, and Aveleigh Keller, all from Stratford; Brendan Cato Wong and Meghan North, Kitchener; Emily Wan, Waterloo; and, Benjamin J. Hall, Elmira.
