Health Unit officials have confirmed a second case of rabies in Perth County.
A skunk found in the Ellice Ward has tested positive for the contagious disease, according to the Perth County Health Unit.
A cow had tested positive for rabies back in December of last year.
Public Health Inspector Jennifer Grinstead says both the cow and the skunk were infected with a type of rabies known as the Arctic Fox strain.
Both cases in Perth County are unrelated to the large number of cases that affected the Hamilton area.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry began dropping bait around the cases at the beginning of April.
Anyone bitten or scratched by an animal should wash the area thoroughly with warm soapy water, seek medical treatment immediately and then contact the Perth County Health Unit at (519) 271-7600 ext. 267 OR Toll-Free at 1-877-271-7348 ext. 267.
