Alzehimer Society Of Canada Stressing Still Here

A diagnosis of dementia does not mean your life is over.

That's the message the Alzheimer Society of Canada is stressing in its "Still Here" awareness campaign.

January is Alzheimer Awareness month and Deborah Barker is executive director of the Alzheimer Society Grey Bruce.

"Once someone has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease the person is still capable of many ways to communicate, to interact with their community, to contribute to their community," says Barker.

Barker adds people should watch for signs of dementia in themselves and friends and family. Memory loss is the most obvious but other signs include personality changes. When a person is positively diagnosed, the Alzheimer Society Grey Bruce is there to help.

The society has developed a presentation designed to expand the understanding of dementia, and to help caregivers, family members and friends to understand and support affected individuals.

The presentation are at Bruce County library branches at the following dates and times:

Lion’s Head Monday, January 11 at 2pm Wiarton Tuesday, January 12 at 2pm Southampton Tuesday, January 19 at 1pm Mildmay Thursday, January 21 at 2pm Teeswater Friday, January 22 at 2pm Kincardine Tuesday, January 26 at 2pm Lucknow Thursday, January 28 at 4pm Tobermory Friday, January 29 at 2pm
