The Salvation Army is hoping Londoners will give generously this holiday season.
The non-profit organization launched its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign on Thursday.
Kettles will be placed at 46 locations throughout the city, including at all shopping malls. Many of this year's kettles have been equipped with TipTap, which allows people to donate using a debit or credit card.
The Salvation Army hopes to raise $580,000 to help local families in need through this year's kettle campaign.
"The on-going economic uncertainty has drastically affected the most vulnerable who are already struggling and support
from our community is needed now more than ever," the Salvation Army said in a statement. "Every donation, no matter how small, makes all the difference to those in need."
All of the money raised in London will stay in the city. It will be used to help the organization provide direct hands-on service to those in need through its food bank, community meals, school lunch program, and transformational programs.
"These programs would not be possible without the support given to the Christmas Kettle campaign," the Salvation Army said. "People know that we are more than their next meal. We are here because we care and want to journey with them in whatever
ways we are able."
Last Christmas, the Salvation Army assisted more than 4,200 families and provided over 6,500 children with toys.
In addition to the kettles, donations can be made at SalvationArmy.ca, by phone at 1-800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769), or by mail to 310 Vesta Road, London, Ontario N5Y 5J1.
