Ongoing roundabout construction will keep a main intersection in southwest London closed this weekend and much of next week.
Starting Saturday morning, the intersection of Southdale Road West and Colonel Talbot Road will be closed. This is to allow crews to complete work in the south half of the intersection as part of the $9 million Southdale and Colonel Talbot Roundabout project.
Detour signage to help guide drivers around the closure has been put in place.
During the work, pedestrians will still be able to cross the intersection along the north side and businesses in the area will remain open and accessible.
"Two of the four pedestrian crossings will be installed and active when the intersection reopens, and people walking will be directed to these new crossings while the remaining crossings are built," city officials said in a statement.
The intersection is slated to reopen next Thursday. When that happens, it will be configured as a temporary one-lane roundabout while work on the remainder of the roundabout is completed. Restricted access to Colonel Talbot Road north of the intersection is expected to continue until late fall.
The transformation of the intersection into a roundabout is being done to improve safety for all road users and help accommodate existing and future travel demand, city officials said previously. The bulk of the construction should be completed by December with a few finishing touches to be carried out in the spring of 2024.
