Celebrating 22 Years Of Doors Open London

The 22nd annual Doors Open London (DOL), presented by the London Heritage Council, will take place this weekend.

Doors Open is a province-wide initiative organized by the Ontario Heritage Trust to attract visitors to unique heritage sites and cultural tourism experiences.

A theme is chosen by the province each year and this year's theme is London’s Heritage Through Cuisine, inviting participants and attendees to explore London’s culture through food.

"London has evolved so much. And over the years, I've been hearing people say maybe 20 years back, 30 years back, there wasn't that kind of that many multi cuisines available in London, but over the years it has, it has grown," said Dhira Ghosh, Director of Operations at the London Heritage Council. "This is the time to showcase that London's cuisine is like a trip around the world, name a cuisine, name a country and it's there in London. "

Doors Open will also feature pop-up theatricals, displays, and live performances. Attendees will get the chance to explore, experience, and taste London’s rich cultural heritage at 28 different sites across the city, including museums, heritage sites, and community businesses.

Museum London will be participating again this year. They will host various activities for visitors of all ages including a corn roast with acclaimed artist Ron Benner, live acoustic music by Frank Ridsdale, a scavenger hunt, outdoor games, guided tours, and more.

"That's what excites us every year. There are organizations that we hadn't thought of. There are spaces that we hadn't thought of," said Ghosh. "And that's what we would like to share with Londoners. That you think you know your city, but there's so much more that you can explore and discover about this city."

Entrance to all participating organizations is free for this weekend only.
