The most decorated ice dancers in the world are about to receive another honour.
London's own Tessa Virtue and Ilderton's Scott Moir will receive the Order of Sport and be inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in October.
Virtue and Moir are the first and only ice dance team to win every major international junior and senior skating competition. They earned five Olympic medals, three World Championships, eight Canadian National Championships, and won the Four Continents Championship three times.
The pair met as children and stayed athletic partners for over 20 years.
They retired from competitive skating in 2019.
The duo is among nine athletes and two builders being inducted for 2023.
"The Class of 2023, a group of exceptional athletes and builders of sport who have conquered challenges, shattered records, and inspired generations, will officially be inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and will receive the Order of Sport on October 19, 2023. From the courts to the fields, from the ice to the octagon, the Class of 2023 is a testament to the relentless pursuit of greatness," said Cheryl Bernard, President and CEO of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Other inductees include:
• Danielle Peers - athlete - wheelchair basketball
• Georges St-Pierre - athlete - mixed martial arts
• Phyllis Bomberry - athlete - softball
• The "Ferbey Four" - Randy Ferbey, David Nedohin, Scott Pfeifer, and Marcel Rocque - athlete - curling
• Hiroshi Nakamura - builder - judo

According to the organization, each inductee is a trailblazer and "has gone 'beyond the win' to build more opportunities for those who came after them and continue to give back to the community."
They were selected from 222 nominations.
