The annual drive-in London airshow, dubbed SkyDrive, will take place this weekend at the London International Airport.
This year's show will pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of air–to–air refueling technology, with mock-refueling demonstrations by an RCAF Hercules, U.S. Air Force KC–135 and KC–146, accompanied by several fighter jets from Canada and the U.S.
New additions include Friday evening’s “Hour of Power”, which is a three hour drone and fireworks show, a Flight Deck option for guests who would like to watch from a seated and tented area instead of their car, and the first-ever flight of A400 Atlas over the London sky.
“Education Day” is also back by popular demand, which will see 4,000 Grade 6 students from the Thames Valley District School Board and London District Catholic School Board out on the airfield.
"It's a big part of our airshow to inspire the next generation of aviators, maintainers and aerospace professionals," said Jim Graham, chair of Airshow London. "We hope to be able to put that sort of real-world into the curriculum around aviation that they're learning about."
The students will be given the chance to explore the airfield Friday morning before the gates open to the public, to check out the aircraft, and talk to pilots and crews.
The airshow, featuring dozens of aircraft is Canada’s largest military air display and was voted North America’s Best Air Show for the past two years in a row.
