London region offering vaccination to anyone 55 and older

New guidelines from local health authorities for vaccinations mean more people in the community can be vaccinated against COVID-19.

On Thursday, both the Middlesex-London Health Unit, and Southwestern Public Health announced that mass public vaccination centres will be booking appointments for anyone aged 55 and older starting Friday at 8 a.m.

"Those in their 50s are often supporting elderly parents, involved with their own children or grandchildren, and working. There are many possible points of exposure and so we are very pleased that vaccine eligibility has opened this week to those who are 55+," said Dr. Joyce Lock, the Medical Officer of Health with Southwestern Public Health. "We’ve got three clinics in operation and we’re looking forward to welcoming you through our doors over the coming weeks.”

Adults aged 40 and up had been eligible to receive vaccines at pharmacies. The new availability is for the mass vaccination clinics.

The province of Ontario has said adults in Ontario will all have their opportunity to get their first shot by the end of May.
