Two Londoners are facing charges after allegedly stealing vehicles, one of which collided with a police cruiser.
The first incident happened Monday. According to police, a motorcycle was going north on Elgin Street just after 6 p.m. when it went through a stop sign and t-boned a London police cruiser that was going east on Hamilton Road. The motorcycle driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. An investigation revealed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen in August.
The driver, a 41-year-old London man, was released from hospital into the custody of police. He is now charged with impaired driving, possession of a Schedule 1 substance, possession of property obtained by crime, altering a licence plate, and driving while under suspension.
Several hours later, police were called after an SUV belonging to Middlesex London EMS was stolen from a parking lot at Victoria Hospital. Police found the vehicle and followed it until they were able to lay down a spike belt, which deflated one of the SUV's tires. Police say the SUV kept going and the driver allegedly tried to ram a cruiser on York Street.
Eventually, the driver pulled onto the ramp leading to the underground parking garage at London police headquarters and was arrested. A 52-year-old woman is charged with impaired driving, failing to comply with a demand made by a peace officer, dangerous driving, auto theft, failing to stop for police, and driving while under suspension.
According to police, LPS garage staff repaired the SUV's flat tire.
