Flood warning issued for Catfish Creek watershed

People living in the St. Thomas region are being warned about possible flooding in low-lying areas.

The Catfish Creek Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for the Catfish Creek Watershed as water levels rise due to a combination of heavy rain that fell Saturday into Sunday, melting snow, and a rise in the temperature.

Conservation authority officials are advising residents to stay away from waterways and any open bodies of water for the time being as water levels are increasing rapidly with an intensifying flow. Rapid flooding of low-lying areas, fields, adjacent parkland, storm drains, small streams, and creeks is extremely possible.

The flood warning will remain in place until 11 p.m. Monday.

The Upper Thames River and Lower Thames Valley conservation authorities have issued warnings about elevated water levels that will continue throughout the week, however, no major flooding is expected.
