Oxford County residents who receive Ontario Works cheques will have to pick up next month's in person.
Due to the ongoing labour disruption at Canada Post, officials with the county announced Monday that they would not be mailing out the November Ontario Works payments, including landlord payments. Instead, those who get the cheques are being asked to pick them up in person at the county offices in Woodstock, Tillsonburg, and Ingersoll on Wednesday.
Photo ID is required to collect the payment.
Anyone who doesn't pick their cheque up on Wednesday will have to go to the Woodstock Administration Building.
"While a disruption to mail service is not confirmed, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers has begun a series of rotating strikes across the country. Oxford County is starting in-person cheque and statement pick-up now to avoid the possibility that Ontario Works payments will be held without delivery, putting vulnerable people in our community at risk of not meeting their basic needs," officials with Oxford County said in a news release.
As the rotating mail service disruptions continue, the county will update information pertaining to Ontario Works payments at www.oxfordcounty.ca/humanservices.
