Chatham man pleads guilty to sex offences involving children, dog

A 45-year-old Chatham man has admitted to committing multiple sex crimes involving children and animals earlier this year.

Robert Craig pleaded guilty in Chatham court on Friday morning to possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, communicating with a person under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose, and bestiality with a dog.

The court heard Craig communicated with an undercover police officer using the persona of a 14-year-old boy during a province-wide Ontario Provincial Police Internet Child Exploitation investigation in March.

During that exchange, Craig engaged in planning graphic and explicit sexual acts with whom he believed to be a boy.

The court also heard that 266 images and 21 videos showing children involved in various sexual acts with adults were found by police at Craig's apartment and phone during the investigation.

Craig is set to be sentenced on January 7, 2027.

He remains in custody.
