CK High School adds new pavilion for elementary students

A Chatham-Kent high school is expanding to allow Grade 7 and 8 students.

École secondaire catholique de Pain Court celebrated the grand opening of its new pavilion on Tuesday.

Starting next school year, this will be home to over 130 students from across the municipality.

Principal JP Cayen told CK News Today this pavilion has been three years in the making.

"It took a lot of moving parts and there were lots of sleepless nights," he said.

There were a couple of reasons why the pavilion was built, one of which was to limit the number of school changes for some students. CK is home to several K-6 schools, meaning students entering Grade 7 will need to find a new school and then again when entering Grade 9.

Cayen explained they also wanted to give the students a sneak peek at what life is like at secondary schools.

"These students can now slowly integrate into high school," he added.

The pavilion will include seven classrooms, modern bathrooms, and flexible learning spaces.

People interested in sending their kids to the school can still do so. Payen explained that students can register during the summer.
