King George VI Public School is $20,000 richer thanks to its students' love of reading.
The school received one of 30 literacy grants given to schools across Canada. Ontario schools collected 11 of the grants, backed by the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation, with only two of them going to schools outside of the Greater Toronto Area.
King George's principal, Danielle Maryschak, shared that the school is thrilled and grateful to have been selected for the Indigo Love of Reading Grant.
"This generous funding will be a game-changer for our school library, allowing us to acquire a diverse collection of new books and resources that will undoubtedly ignite a passion for reading in our students," Maryschak said. "We believe that a strong library is the heart of a thriving school, and this grant will empower us to provide our students with the tools and inspiration they need to become lifelong learners and readers."
King George and the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation will now partner for three years to enhance the school's library and instill a love of reading in the students.
"The students and staff are very excited to rebuild our library collection to reflect diverse titles, expand our non-fiction books, and add more high-interest fiction selections," Maryschak said.
Since 2004, the foundation has given over $36 million to more than 3,600 schools.
