New CK Children’s Treatment Centre building gets large donation

The Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent (CTC-CK) has received a sizable donation.

The McGeachy Charitable Foundation has donated $300,000 to support the Butterfly Building Campaign.

The donation was made in celebration of National Philanthropy Day and in honour of the late Lynn McGeachy Schultz, a passionate advocate for the welfare of children.

The Children's Treatment Centre provides therapy and services to children with special needs, developmental delays, and disabilities.

The Centre needs to build a new building to better serve its growing caseload and the needs of the children and families in Chatham-Kent.

Scott McGeachy of the McGeachy Charitable Foundation said we need to ensure the quality of life of our grandchildren is better than the opportunities we had as kids.

"The Children's Centre is perceived as kids that need that extra wheel chair, accessibility, or working pools, or whatever, but it's much more than that. Today's kids, our grandchildren, a lot of them go there for early life assessments and as grandparents we need to invest in the future, we need to invest in the care of our grandchildren," said McGeachy.

Chair of the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation Kevin Owen said the McGeachy Charitable Foundation understands the significance of providing exceptional care and resources to those who require it the most and he's incredibly grateful for the significant donation.

Owen said the generous donation of $300,000 will make a significant impact on the capital project, ensuring that the new Children's Treatment Centre can continue delivering services and therapies to children in need.

"They say that a society grows when old men plant trees and whose shade they will never sit and I think this reference defines the McGeachy Foundation well. You're very special people and this support will positively impact the lives of countless childfren and their families for generations to come," Owen said.

The new and fully accessible Children's Treatment Centre will feature a range of essential amenities, including a dedicated gym, therapy rooms, and an updated pool that will be accessible to both clients and the wider community.

McGeachy added the Foundation is dedicated to supporting local causes and believes in the mission of the Children's Treatment Centre.

"This donation is a reflection of Lynn's unwavering commitment to the welfare of children; she started her career at the Centre and helped to both improve and expand programs," said McGeachy. "We are honored to contribute to the capital project that will provide a modern and welcoming space for children in our community."
