Grand Parade fundraising walk set for Sept. 16

Family Service Kent hopes to raise $27,000 at the Chatham-Kent Grand Parade in support of older adults across the region.

The Grand Parade Chatham-Kent will start and finish at Sons of Kent on Saturday, September 16.

"It's an opportunity to raise funds and raise awareness for aging adults in our community," said Executive Director Dan Farrow. "We're going to be walking through downtown Chatham."

The walk is roughly 2.5 kilometres long through the downtown core of Chatham.

According to Farrow, residents can participate in the event that starts at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. Residents can also sign up through the Chatham-Kent Grand Parade fundraising walk website.

The fundraiser has already raised 50 per cent of its fundraising goal with $13, 610 at the last check.

"Last year we set a goal of $20,000 and made it," said Farrow. "We're working hard to hit our goal this year within the last few hours leading up to the event."

The Grand River Council on Aging is a registered charitable non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging an age-friendly community.
