UPDATE: Economic growth popping up all over CK

Tax breaks are on the table for several new developments across Chatham-Kent.

On Monday evening, Chatham-Kent Council granted tax incentives for a new restaurant and retail space, as well as for a housing development in Blenheim and another in Wallaceburg, a new Habitat for Humanity Restore in Chatham, a new gas bar and a convenience store in Tilbury, and another new gas bar, convenience store, and takeout restaurant in Harwich.

The new $3.7 million restaurant and retail space is at 364 Chatham Street North in Blenheim.

A new six-storey building with 85 units is coming to 247 Talbot Street West in Blenheim.

The new $11 million development at 815 Elgin Street in Wallaceburg, the former site of W.T. Laing Public School, will contain Row House Dwellings and a Semi-Detached Dwelling with a total of 52 units.

The new Habitat for Humanity Restore to be built on vacant land at 55 Junction Avenue in Chatham will be a receiving, processing, warehousing, and retail sales facility.

The new gas bar and convenience store will be at 71 Mill Street West in Tilbury.

The new gas bar, convenience store, and takeout restaurant in Harwich will be located at 21055 Charing Cross Road.

The municipality provides tax breaks for properties to be developed, redeveloped or rehabilitated.

Projects are eligible for a grant equal to the amount of new municipal property taxes levied because of new assessment growth related to the development.

Owners are required to enter into an agreement with the municipality and grant amounts are determined following completion of the project, reassessment by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), and conclusion of appeals to the Assessment Review Board (ARB), if any.
