Third annual Welcome Week kicks off on Friday

The Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership (CK LIP) will launch the community's third annual Welcome Week on Friday.

The event will last until Sunday, September 17, and is a chance to highlight why Chatham-Kent was designated as Canada’s First Welcoming Community.

"Chatham-Kent is thrilled for the opportunity to showcase cultural diversity and inclusivity in our community through the events during Welcome Week," said Peter Sulman, CK LIP Coordinator. "We look forward to shining a spotlight on immigrants and newcomers in CK and what they bring to the community."

CK LIP consists of 39 community organizations working together.

"We are delighted to have this opportunity to highlight the work we do year-round, and to celebrate with the people who choose Chatham-Kent to call home." Tracy Callaghan, Co-Chair of the CK LIP said.

CK Welcome Week will kick off at the Building Culture, Community, and Connections event and flag-raising at the Civic Centre from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. The flag-raising includes the mayor and is followed by a Civic Centre tour and presentation.

King Street West in Chatham will also be closed between Second Street and Third Street from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. Friday for a special event associated with the launch of Welcome Week.
