A walking fundraiser by a Chatham boy and his mother has raised thousands of dollars so far for the Children's Hospital in London.
Joshua Taylor, 13, a student at George P. Vanier Catholic School in Chatham, and his mother Sandra Glover walked 64 kilometres from Chatham to Windsor on Sunday. They have raised $5,400 so far to pay it forward to the hospital that took care of his brother and sister when they were sick.
"I’m at a loss for words. Makes it worth being as sore as we are this morning," said Glover.
Glover said more donations are coming in and they thank everyone for helping.
"Thank you so much everyone for helping a teen do something so big. He is now passed out and snoring on our drive home," Glover said. "I will never forget this. It was a hard long day but he will remember this the rest of his life. He’s lucky, I love him so much."
Joshua wants to make the world a better place and urges people to follow their hearts and dreams.
"Follow your heart, follow your passion. If you think you think you can't do it, you should try anyway to see if you can actually complete it," said Joshua. "If you keep pushing through to find out if you can do it, then that's an accomplishment and once you have the confidence that you can do that then you can do more things, bigger things."
Glover said the walk took about 14 hours and ended around 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Joshua went to school on Monday despite having sore legs and ankles.
He said this isn't the end of his charity work and wants to do more good for charities in the future.
