Chatham-Kent is getting ready to embrace the thousands of crows that frequent the area with a first-of-its-kind event this fall.
From October 12 to 15, the first-ever Chatham-Kent Crowfest will be a full takeover of the downtown area.
"It's going to be a great event and there's not much else going at that time," said Crowfest Co-Chair Andrew Thiel. "We're looking forward to some major crowds this fall."
The four-day event will lead up to the main weekend on October 14 to 15 with daily activities and entertainment hosted around downtown Chatham.
Thiel said some of the highlights include the dueling pianos on Wednesday, October 12th, the Gala on the 13th, the night market and buskers on the 14th, and then the big celebration on Saturday the 15th.
"One of our buskers will be put upside down and held about 40 to 50 feet up in the air to escape from a straight jacket," said Thiel. "Our buskers are coming from all over the world - Ireland, Europe, the U.S. These are professional people who travel around the world."
You can find the full schedule for all the busker action here.
"The buskers will be separated in three different stage areas around the downtown," said Thiel. "Say you miss one of the buskers, you will still be able to catch them perform at a different time on a different day."
Downtown merchants, landlords, and tenants are being incentivized to decorate their buildings and storefronts by October 12.
The best-decorated building or storefront will win a chance to either have their rent paid for one month, up to $1,000, or a staff party for $1,000, according to Thiel.
"I think this will become an annual event," said Thiel. "If it's any indication of what the sponsorship level was and the number of volunteers into crows and all things crow, I think it will be an annual event for sure."
