Paper delivery person attacked in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips after an unidentified suspect attacked someone who was delivering papers in Chatham.

Police said the incident took place just before midnight on Tuesday while the victim was in the area of Cross Street.

The suspect reportedly cut the victim with what is believed to be a knife or a razor, causing the victim to suffer minor injuries.

The suspect was last seen heading east on Cross Street.

TV stolen from Chatham school

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone smashed three windows at a school in Chatham and stole a 32" TV from inside.

Police didn't name the school, but said the building is on Churchill Street -- the John N. Given Learning Centre is the only school on that street.

Officers said the break-in took place sometime overnight and they are asking anyone with information to contact Cadet Dylan Moniz at dylanmo@chatham-kent.ca or Crime Stoppers.

Suspect connected to two thefts in Chatham

A 33-year-old man of no fixed address has been arrested and charged in connection with a pair of thefts that both took place earlier this week.

Chatham-Kent police said the first break-in was at a business on Queen Street in Chatham.

Police said it's believed that break-in took place sometime overnight from Monday to Tuesday.

Investigators believe the suspect forced open a bay door and then stole over $20,000 worth of equipment, adding that the suspect also stole a pickup truck that was parked inside the business.

Police said they were able to recover the pickup truck shortly afterwards at a residence on Richmond Street.

Shortly after the break-in on Queen St., police said they were called to a second break-and-enter at a residence on Raleigh Street.

Officers said by the time they arrived there, the suspect had already taken off, but they were able to find him shortly afterwards hiding in a flowerbed.

Police said when they searched the residence that had been entered, they found thousands of dollars worth of stolen tools, some of which were from the break-in on Queen St.

Investigators also allegedly found the keys for the stolen truck inside the home.

A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with multiple offences including two counts of break and enter, one count of theft, one count of possession of stolen property, and one count of possession of break-in tools.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Suspicious person arrested on an outstanding warrant

A tip about a suspicious person on Darrell Line in Chatham-Kent led police to a wanted man Tuesday morning.

Police said they got the tip just before 8 a.m. Tuesday and when they found him, they learned that he was wanted for theft, possession of stolen property, and failing to comply with his probation.

He was arrested and taken back to police headquarters and later released with a future court date.

Man arrested for stealing a painting

A Chatham man has been arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property after he allegedly stole a painting from a store on King Street in Chatham.

Police said they received that tip just before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, adding that they were able to track down the suspect and recovered the painting as well.

The accused was arrested, charged, and later released with a future court date.

ATV reported stolen in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent police are trying to track down a 2003 Yamaha Kodiak ATV that was reportedly stolen from a property in the Wallaceburg area sometime over the past week.

Police said the ATV was taken from an address on Swan Line and that the licence plate attached to the vehicle at the time was 86MW6.

Generator stolen from a trailer on St. Clair Street in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are asking the public for tips after someone broke into a trailer on St. Clair Street in Chatham and stole a generator.

Police said the break-in took place sometime over the past two weeks, adding that whoever broke in, smashed a window to get inside. The generator is worth approximately $350.

Man who refused to leave hospital facing charges

A 39-year-old Chatham man is charged with mischief after he allegedly threw a rock at a parked car during a disturbance at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Tuesday evening.

Police said they were called to the hospital at around 11:20 p.m. after a man was refusing to leave the property.

Officers said after they arrived, the man was escorted outside, but as he was leaving, he allegedly picked up a rock and threw it at a car, causing some damage to the vehicle.

He was then arrested, charged with mischief, and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
