Two wanted men accused of using stolen credit cards
Two Chatham-Kent men in their 20s who were both wanted by police are in even more trouble with the law now.
Chatham-Kent police said they arrested both of the men after they responded to a call about two men trying to use a stolen credit card at a business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham just before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said when they showed up, they saw two men riding bicycles a short distance away.
One of the men stopped when police told him to and he was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Officers said the other man allegedly kept biking away and was arrested sometime later.
Police said they allegedly found several cards on him that were not in his name, adding that he also had some items in his possession that had been purchased with the cards.
Officers later learned that the stolen cards had been used to purchase items at several stores.
The first man police arrested -- a 25-year-old Chatham-Kent man -- was charged with possession of a card obtained by crime and possession of stolen property. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
The second man police arrested -- a 23-year-old Chatham-Kent man -- was charged with four counts of fraud, and one count each of possession of a credit card obtained by crime, possession of stolen property, and failing to stop.
He was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
