133 additional COVID-19 cases in London-area

COVID-19 case counts in London-Middlesex are once again in the triple digits.

According to The Middlesex London Health Unit, there were 133 new infections recorded on Saturday.

It is the fourth consecutive day this week and 13th day this month the Middlesex London Health Unit has logged a daily triple-digit increase.

On Friday, 105 new cases were reported with 151 reported on Thursday and a record-setting 176 recorded on Wednesday.

Since the pandemic began, a total of 9,138 cases have been reported in the London area.

Meanwhile, 120 additional recoveries were also recorded on Saturday. So far, 7,759 individuals in the London-area have recovered from the virus and the number of known active cases is currently at 1,186.

Another 38 variant infections were identified for a total of 911. Of those, 909 are the B.1.1.7 strain that originated in the U.K. and two are the P.1 variant from Brazil. There are 190 cases confirmed with a mutation-positive sample.

There were no new deaths reported on Saturday, with the number remaining at 193.

Outbreaks continue at one health care facility (Parkwood Institute Mental Health Care Building), two daycare centres and three schools.

Another outbreak was declared at a university residence on Saturday, this time at Western University's London Hall. This marks the ninth active outbreak at a university residence in the region. Outbreaks continue at Western's Deleware Hall, Elgin Hall, Essex Hall, Medway-Sydenham Hall, Ontario Hall, Perth Hall, Saugeen-Maitland Hall as well as at King's Commons College Western Affiliate Residence.

Across Ontario, provincial health officials logged 4,362 additional cases of the virus on Saturday. The total number of cases in the province is now at 412,745 with 364,353 recoveries and 7,698 deaths.
